RELAPSE / RECOVERY COURT GUIDE AND WORKBOOK

About the Process and Workbook

History: This Relapse /Recovery Court (RRC) Process was designed by Penny Pennachi in 1988 and informally utilized in the group setting while working with criminal justice clients and 'street' addicts at the Columbia Hospital SAU Program. Ms. Pennachi coined the name Relapse/Recovery Court to reference this model and group process. To aid with participant education and preparation she also developed an educational screening tool consisting of thirty-five questions specific to addiction, relapse and recovery.

Ms. Pennachi has implemented and utilized Relapse/Recovery Court in inpatient and outpatient settings, correctional facilities and halfway house settings since 1988 in Pennsylvania, New York and Arizona.

After providing numerous trainings for professionals to utilize this process, it became apparent that there was a need to formalize the process and develop a workbook for clients.
